If you add up the coastal areas of San Diego’s north county (Carmel Valley, Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside) there were a lot of music venues, record stores, and other related locations back in the 90s, 2000s, and even today. In fact, there are so many that I had to split it into two videos! In this first video, I revisit:

  • The apartment complex where we ran In Your Face TV out of
  • Torrey Pines High School (where my 90s punk band, Gimp, played and where most were students at)
  • Encinitas Music Trader (where Chris Greenslate of New Left Records and the hardcore-punk band, The Cause, worked at in the 90s)
  • Lou’s Records in Encinitas (the staple new and used record store of the region back in the 90s and today)
  • The Pannikin in Encinitas/Leucadia (coffee house that Jason Mraz used to play)
  • Spin Records in Carlsbad (record store of the 90s and today)
  • Takilya’s (21+ bar that Gimp played in the 90s when we were underage)

In the previous video, I went from south to north and ended in Oceanside. In this one, I go from north to south (beginning in Oceanside and ending at the UCSD campus)…

  • Duplication house in Oceanside (where my 90s/2000s punk band, Camerica, had our CDs pressed before we got signed and where I had the Music From In Your Face TV CDs pressed)
  • Pour House in Oceanside (bar and brewery of today that has 90s punk shows still)
  • Oceanside Brewing Co (brewery of today started and operated by Camerica’s good friend, Tomas Bryant, and welcomes local bands to play)
  • Music Mart in Solana Beach (where the Kearny Mesa Music Mart moved to)
  • The Belly Up in Solana Beach (mainstream music venue of the 90s and today that also has punk shows)
  • Del Mar Racetrack/Fair Grounds (where the 1999 Warped Tour was held)
  • The Che Cafe at UCSD (all-ages punk, hardcore, and alternative music venue of the 90s and today- both Gimp and Camerica played)
  • UCSD Student Center (all-ages music venue that Camerica played in the early late 90s or early 2000s)
