Downtown San Diego is of course known for the Gaslamp Quarter and all the clubs and live music venues there. But in the punk and alternative music world, they’ve also had a few places. So in this video, I start out by stopping by a few venues that I missed in previous videos. They are:

  • Lestats in Normal Heights (a coffee house with a live music venue connected to it)
  • Spacebar in La Mesa (an internet cafe that has live punk rock shows sometimes)
  • World Beat Center in Balboa Park (reggae music venue)

And then I proceed to Downtown San Diego and cover:

  • 4th & B (mistakenly- I correct it the next video below ↓)
  • House of Blues (corporate live music venue chain that’s known for hosting larger punk shows)
  • Copley Symphony Hall (ornate live music theater as it used to be San Diego’s opera house- now hosts some national alternative acts like Sigur Ros)
  • The Casbah (21+ indie rock club that also has punk bands)
  • Humphries Concerts, which is not downtown but along the harbor (larger concert venue that hosts a lot of 80s pop and rock bands and also has the annual San Diego Music Awards)

Correction Video

I this video, I had to correct the 4th & B part of the downtown video above. I didn’t realize that it had already been torn down and I was filming the wrong building (correct intersection). So I start this video out by covering a few things in Mission Hills like a coffee place owned by someone from the hardcore-punk band: Unbroken. The coffee place is called Heart Coffee and it is in reference to an Unbroken album or song or something. I then proceed downtown (not far away) and film the correct spot where 4th & B stood (which was a staple alternative music venue in the 90s).
